My sorority means so much to me, and saying good bye to these women is the hardest thing I have ever done. What scares me most about the future isn’t the mountain of student debt, or the uncertainty of where I’ll end up. What scares me the most is that I won’t be constantly surrounded by so many wonderful women who do nothing but see the best in me, support me, and lift me up when I need it the most. These women are my sisters in every sense of the word, and I know that they will support me, no matter how far apart we are.Delta GammaFor Hope. For Strength. For Life.

I don’t care.
I don’t care if you think it’s inappropriate that I wear leggings as pants.
I don’t care if you think my big frockets are ugly and stupid.
I don’t care if you think I paid for my friends, if I did I didn’t pay nearly enough.
I don’t care if you think I’m stupid.
I don’t care if you disagree with me.

I don’t care what you think about me, because I don’t think about you at all.

In 1873 in Oxford, Mississippi, 3 women on campus at the Lewis School for girls and found themselves home sick. Those three women were Eva Webb Dodd, Anna Boyd Ellington, and Mary Comfort Leonard. Each of those women were different in their own right, but they found a bond based on their high ideals and values that they cherished.

Do you think on that day they had any idea the effect they would have in the world? Or did they just sit together one day and realize how amazing the other was? I know I can’t really speak for them, but I can’t imagine that they predicted that years later the girls club that they wanted to establish on their campus would raise thousands of dollars towards service and aid for those with visual impairments and those who are blind.

They didn’t know anything about greek weeks/weekends, date parties, or mixers. In the beginning, it was just about women who believed in one another and valued friendship, compassion and courage. They didn’t know how long their organization would last or how many members eventually they would have or how far their organization would expand. In the beginning, it was just three women who wanted to unite women who were looking for a bond that was beyond friendship.

These three amazing women are proof that any person can make simple as a club into an amazing life-long and life changing organization. I may not be able to thank these women for creating this amazing organization, but I can live each day as an embodiment of the dream they may have had for this organization. I can thank those women by living out their ideals and values and continue to strive for the things that they believed in.  I am going to thank those women for the amazing experience they’ve given me by hugging each and every one of my sisters (including my glittles) tonight because they are women who I imagine would be a part of the founding chapter of Delta Gamma and they are the representation of what believe Delta Gamma is and will always be.
